The
settling of prehistorical inhabitants on the island produced the
building of an extraordinary amount of megalitic constructions from
different periods. The remains of which have survived to the present
day. They are so well preserved making Minorca a rare example not
only becauseof the quantity but also because of the quality of the
prehistorical monuments.
The CAVES excavated in the limestone layer which forms the most
of the subsoil of the island are the most antique monuments. Their
dimensions vary between five and ten metres in diameter with a height
of approximately two metres. In some of them, a bit of decoration
can be noticed.
