Environmental Administration Policy of the Town Hall of Ciutadella de Menorca

The Town Hall of Ciutadella de Menorca is aware that the growth of its activities and all the services, which are required, affects the improvement of the environmental conditions of the municipality as well as the improvement in the quality of life of its inhabitants and visitors.

The environmental criteria has to act as an administration reference point which reflects and influences all the sectors of our society and constitute the everyday working of such with the object of "continual improvement in mind".

With this in mind we present the Declaration of the Environmental Policy of the Town Hall of Ciutadella de Menorca.

The Mayor, the Commission of Government and the Plenary consider that its policy of administration is fundamental to guarantee a sustainable development, the prevention of contamination and respect for the environment. The municipal staff and collaborators have to accept this philosophy according to the following commitments:

1. Make sure that the measures of environmental standards as well as those established voluntary by the Town Hall are carried out in the way that they are laid down by law, with the aim to arrive at to the highest degree of environmental protection.
2. Include the environmental policy in the municipal administration plan, taking in to consideration the environmental conditions when planning and making decisions in all the activities and services as well as taking the necessary measures to prevent contamination especially in the case of accidents.
3. Conserve the municipal area, give account of our mission to guarantee a high quality service and the economic development of the municipality, with the intention of conserving the environment and natural resources and continually improving the process.
4. Promote training and information of the staff about the necessity to protect and conserve the environment during their everyday activities, especially for those who undertake jobs which could cause a significant impact on the natural surroundings.
5. Take into consideration the aspiration and preoccupations of the neighbours and visitors by making them aware of the environmental plans of the town.
6. Inform all the social sectors about the problems, targets and the results obtained concerning the municipal environment.
7. Create programs of social awareness to diffuse the value and necessity of the environment
8. Involve the companies that work for the Town Hall so that they adopt the necessary environmental measures in accordance with those stipulated by the Town Hall and which will be taken in consideration in the renewal of contracts and services.
9. Promote the improvement of the environment and sustainable activities by collaborating with the governmental organisations, paying special attention to the companies situated within the municipal area.

The means adopted by the Town Hall are to be dynamic and will be subjected to constant revision as well as being communicated to the staff and the public in general.
